It was a fine Sunday morning I had finished my 5th SEM Engineering Exams the previous day. I had decided to take a longer nap. I woke up at 11:30 AM, I knew I was a dead man, I had to catch a bus back to Coorg; I had promised my mother that I will be attending a distant relative’s wedding reception with her. I rushed to the bathroom dressed up and hurried to the bus stand; somehow I was fortunate I was heading to Coorg by 12:30. I brought some biscuits when the bus had stopped for few minutes in between, missing lunch and breakfast was not new staying in the hostels.
It was 7:30, I was late I had informed I would be their by 6:30. My mom surprisingly didn’t make a fuss of it. I refreshed and was ready to leave by 8:00. We took an auto. The marriage hall was not far away we were their in minuets. As usual all the ladies had formed a group. I stood aside, I guess I was not even considered to be standing there. I looked around I saw a group of good looking girls, I wondered whether I would go behind them some how I told myself it would be very cheep of me to do that.
I couldn’t resist looking at those beautiful girls my eyes locked for a second with one of the best looking girl in that group; swiftly I pretended to be searching someone else. I realized those girls were hitting on me. Not very usual you see a group of girls looking at you. I personally felt all guys should be given training as to how to react to such a situation. I thanked god as I spotted someone like me, I started a conversation with him not a bad company. My mom came looking for me, we left to have dinner. Then the unexpected, the girl with whom I had made eye contact had bowed to touch my mother’s feet she said some connection. My mom responded with a hug
“How soon you have grown Shalini”
Shalini nice name I thought we left to have dinner together. My mom sat next to her and I sat on the other side of my mom. I kept quite and focused on my plate
“What do you do” she asked
“Engineering 5th SEM RV Bangalore” I replied. I scolded my self for not asking her what she was doing.
“I am doing my 1st year Engineering BMSCE Bangalore she responded” I wondered whether she could read my mind anyways first year perfect a silent happiness filled me.
“I didn’t get your name”
“Rohan” I replied, nice name she responded instantly.
We had finished our dinner and were about to leave, I shook my hand with Shalini to say goodbye. Rohan she called as I was walking back
“You dropped your handkerchief”
“Thank you” just then I realized it was not mine I turned back again she was walking back, she signaled call me. I knew it the instant when a girl says call me. I couldn’t stop blushing all the way home.
Next day morning I enquired about Shalini with my mom making sure she didn’t suspect me, I only understood that she was some 3rd or 4th distant relation of mine. I didn’t bother much. That afternoon I had decided to SMS her “Hi this is Rohan”. We chatted for some time. Days passed we were pretty close, and I knew it that it was a matter of time now. I had invited her for lunch and dinner a lot of times it was strange that she never agreed she gave me excuses; But today we had a date she had agreed to meet me and I was told I had a surprise. We were meeting in a Spanish restaurant down the blocks in Jayanagar.
I wore my best outfit. I didn’t want to be late for my first date I borrowed my friend’s bike. It was a dim restaurant, my first time here. I spotted her in a corner table as informed; she was wearing a brown frock.
“Hi Shalini”
“Hi Rohan” she replied with a smile.
“I am sorry I thought you as one of my friend” I apologized; I realized she had specified my name.
“How did you know my name?” I enquired. She asked me to sit down I couldn’t resist she was looking gorgeous. I stared at her as she spoke
“Hi my name is Sneha, Shalini is my friend” I wondered something must be wrong with her, she went on
“I was there in the wedding of your relatives. I liked you I couldn’t approach you then this was all Shalini’s idea I swear I wanted to tell you before, I am so sorry I was scared” I could see her eyes were beginning to fill up with tears, damn how quick they get it I thought
“I new this had to end” she concluded looking at me, she looked so cute. I was angry theirs no way anybody can show it on her she was the most beautiful girl I had ever seen.
I realized she was waiting for my reply. “I said its Ok” I couldn’t get my eyes off her
“All these days was I speaking to you” I asked helplessly.
She nodded in reply. We had dinner together I still had not come out of the shock. Our conversation was limited. Somehow I loved it I dropped her and was returning back; I was fine now that was my first date I thought A Filmy One.
